“They have no clothes no identification, no cellphones, nothing.”

These are the words of a councillor from Carletonville, Mr Carlos Rebelo, in whose ward a house was majorly damaged in a fire yesterday afternoon.

As far as could be determined, the fire broke out at about 17:20.

Although the fire department and Gladiator Advanced Rescue and CPI attended the scene, the right side of the house has been burnt beyond recognition. Although the left side of the house has not been damaged to such an extent, goods such as bedding inside cannot be used as a result of smoke and water.

Although the fire flared up again later the evening, the fire department quenched the flames again. It is not sure how the fire started.

The family, which consists of a man, his wife, and a daughter with three young children, had to stay over with friends last night. The parents were, as far as could be determined, first checked at Fountain Private Hospital.

In the meantime, various residents, including Rebelo, are asking for donations of clothing. Some household goods and clothes were delivered to the family during the course of the evening.

People who want to assist, can contact Rebelo at 082 892 4603.
