Local Western riders excel

Four riders of the Dakota Riding club participated in the National Sawmga (SA Western Mounted Games Association) 2017 tournament at Afridome Parys from 30 September to 2 October.
Denika Ras rode Sanesa Newcomer Challenge for Laerskool Fochville. Nicole Standing rode Level 1 for Laerskool Dagbreek. Unicus van Wyk rode Level 1 for Laerskool Randfontein (RAM) and Sunica van Wyk Level 1 for Hoërskool Riebeeckrand.
All four riders participated in the provincial event and represented Gauteng West earlier in the year.
The Dakota riders participated in a total of 12 events for Western Mounted Games over the three-days and all achieved their best times for the year.
After the Fauriesmith endurance race, the Western Mounted Games is the second biggest equestrian event in South Africa and there were a total of 351 entries this year.
Dakota Riding Club is one of the few clubs that focus more on Western Mounted Games than on endurance.
The riding club wishes all the riders the best of luck in 2018.
‘We know that our club, with its avid supporters and great team spirit will be shining again next year. We have riders from Westonaria, Fochville, Randfontein and Carletonville,’ says Jacqueline Standing.
