Crime awareness at Fochville Stadium

The Fochville SAPS and stakeholders conducted a crime awareness campaign in Fochville on 30 September. The event included a march from President Hyper to the stadium, during which pamphlets with safety tips were distributed. The formal programme started at 11:00, when the station commander, Lt-Col Phumelele Matamela addressed the community about the challenges of housebreaking and the theft of motor vehicles. ‘Hijacking is also a problem but the SAPS is doing its best to arrest those criminals. Three hijackers have already been arrested,’ he declared. The Fochville CPF’s deputy chairperson, Mr Van Der Merwe also pleaded with the community to come and assist the patrollers with surveillance. He also reminded them about the WhatsApp groups that are there in emergency situations. The Merafong traffic officer also addressed the community and warned them about the cameras around Fochville that assist in surveillance. According to the communications officer, Const. Elsie Tshonte, the different biker commanders also promised to help fight crime and said they would be joining the neighbourhood watch, especially in the CBD area.
