Fashion designer coming to showcase in Merafong

A fashion designer Alice Nkomo from Randfontein is planning to showcase her work in Merafong in early 2018. She will be hosting a fashion show in the area as she would like to introduce her clothing brand known as “Lady Bug”. Her passion developed from an early age when she would recreate her own small pieces of designs for her Barbie dolls. She loved mixing and matching different cloths without a sewing machine. When she reached high school she also discovered her fashion sense “My dream to start my own brand began when I turned a normal t shirt into a butterfly looking kind of top. It was then that my peers started recognizing my talent” she said. She also had a passion for decorating as she loved helping out at events. Nkomo became even more interested in fashion when her friends started asking for fashion advice. “I am a very stylish person, I know how to put things together and I believe that it is something that I was born with” she further expressed. She is inspired by people’s different shapes and sizes as she is always fascinated by how she can work with people’s bodies creatively. She says her role model is David Tlale, a popular South African designer. Her talent was inherited from her grandmother who used to sew clothing and she also remembers that her late father once personally sewed a dress for her when she was a child. She started taking her skill seriously when she was requested to design for the bridesmaids at a friend’s wedding. She describes her brand as a family clothing brand where a father, mother and child can match their clothes for events. Her message to young designers is that they should embrace their talents and not hide it, She also advised young people to start acting out their dreams no matter the situation as well as to know and follow their purpose. “Show your vision, anything is possible, use your talents because most successful people use their talents, build your career and eventually everything will work out” she advised.
