Hlangabeza Primary scoops three sports awards

Hlangabeza Primary School's star u.13 G chess team and their coach, Eazy Tshabadira.

Hlangabeza Primary School has once again been acknowledged for its excellent work and achievement in the sport of chess.
The school made Gauteng and the South African chess community proud when it won the Developing School Team of the Year award at the South African Sports Awards in 2017.
Last Friday, the school received three awards at the Gauteng West District (D2) school sports awards hosted at Pro-Practicum School in Krugersdorp.
The u.13 G team was named the School Team of the Year and coach Eazy Tshabadira won the Technical Official of the Year (officiating and running chess tournaments from local to national, school and federation level). Nokuthula Msiwa took the second place in the category of Primary School Female Athlete of the Year for her performance in chess, Morabaraba and athletics. She captained the u.13 girls’ team that won the Gauteng Championships.
The awards followed the achievement of one of the school’s players, Lonwabo Fihla, who had just received a ministerial bursary to further his studies until matric. He was selected after the talent identification at the national
schools’ winter games when he represented team Gauteng in chess. He has been placed at Prestige College, joining
his former teammate, Eleazar Nhamuave, who won the same bursary last year. Both players started playing chess at Hlangabeza from a young age and have represented the country overseas (with the help of AngloGold Ashanti).
