Thief flees after alarm goes off

The thief who wreaked havoc inside the golf club’s shop.

A burglar caused some damage at the Goldfields West Private Golf Club last Saturday. If the security had not arrived on the scene, however, it could have been a lot worse.
According to Warrant Officer Peter Masoea, the Carletonville police spokesperson, everything was as it should be at around 19:03 on 29 April. The windows were secured and the doors were locked.
Just over 24 hours later, at around 19:30, the alarm went off and the security officers responded. On their way, an unknown maroon Opel Corsa Lite sped past them.
When they arrived at the shop, they found the wooden cleats in front of the shop’s window had been removed. Inside, the burglar had caused around R450 of damage and stole a Pink Samsung S7 Edge and other goods to the amount of R500. Video camera footage later showed the man, who was wearing a balaclava, helping himself among the counters. According to a member of the club, Mr Ockie Brits, this was the eighth time that the club had been broken into in the past year.
The club is offering a reward to anyone who has information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
