Two days, two gang-related murders

According to the communications officer of the police in Wedela, Sgt. Reginald Mosamai Moshe, all hell broke loose at the Elandsridge taxi rank last Monday evening. At around 19:00, a man suspected to be involved in gang-related activities was gunned down there.
‘He was shot in the head and we later found 14 cartridges near his body,’ says Moshe. The killers fled on foot but later sped away in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla.
Security officers of Kusasalethu saw the men fleeing and gave chase. When another vehicle, a white Nissan Elgrand minibus with a Lesotho number plate pushed in front of the security guards, however, they were unable to see the Corolla’s number plate.
They immediately notified their colleagues to close the boom gate on the way to Blyvoor.
When the suspects realised they could not escape in their car, they jumped out and tried to get away on foot. Two of them were arrested at the scene.
It later emerged that the slain man was out on bail after being arrested on another gang-related murder charge in Wedela. His alleged victim was the brother of the driver of the Nissan Elgrand.
On the night he was arrested, he was driving the black BMW belonging to the man who was later to be his alleged killer. The victim was also linked to another murder in the area. All those involved in this incident are residents of Lesotho and we consider this to be a gang-related crime,’ Moshe told the Herald.
In a similar incident in the early hours of Sunday morning, another man was murdered near the Jehovah’s Witness church in Wedela.
He was shot execution style with two close-range shots to the head.
Anyone with information about these killings is asked to contact Sgt Moshe at 082 776 5611.
