Young soccer star to strut his stuff in Italy

On 3 July, Evile Mbombo, a 15-year-old learner of Carletonville High School and a member of the Killer Stars Football Club from Wedela will be flying to Reggie Emelia in Italy as part of the Gauteng under 17 team. The event will continue until 16 July.
According to his coach, Mbuyiselo Zuwani, this is the first time ever that a junior soccer player from Merafong has been chosen for a team that will be playing internationally.
This young central midfielder had to take part in several sets of trials throughout the course of last year to be chosen for this team.
Although he has been playing soccer since he was six years old, his big break came when Zuwani, who is also the owner of Killer Stars and the current chairman of the Merafong City Local Municipality Soccer Union, spotted him.
‘I was just passing by and saw this tiny boy juggling the ball in the street. I had never seen such skill in another player before. I asked him to come to the ground to practise with my team but he was so shy that I had to ask one of his friends to go and look for him again later,’ says Zuwani.
This enthusiastic coach later organised for Evile to go and practise at the gym at Western Deep Levels No, 2 shaft to ‘beef him up’ and improve his strength and stability.
According to Zuwani, the event in Italy will be a great opportunity for Evile as there will undoubtedly be scouts from many big teams. If chosen, this could possibly be the start of a professional football career.
‘I am really looking forward to the event,’ said the shy youngster, who attended another special practice camp in Sandton with other members of the team this week.
Anyone who can assist Evile with any kind of sponsorship for the event can contact Zuwani at 078 064 7505.
