Special charity race tomorrow

The race was started last year by a caring resident, Ms Sikie Tshabalala, to raise funds for sanitary pads for girls in the area who cannot afford them. These girls often miss school for several days each month.
This year’s race, organised by Tshabalala’s company, Okuhlekodwa Trading and Projects, will once again be held at the Carletonville Sports Centre. It will start 07:30 and everyone is welcome to attend.
‘The race will again be only 5 km long as we want it to become a fixed charity event on the annual calendar that can draw as many people as possible,’ says Tshabalala.
She added that many of the people who took part last year said that they enjoyed it so much that they will participate again. The entry fee is three packs of sanitary pads.
‘The first 30 people to pass the finish line will get medals. There will also be cash prizes for the first three men and women who cross the finish line.
To make it even easier for people to take part, there will be a group of volunteers to watch over children this year so that parents can take part in the race. There will also be jumping castles where the youngsters can enjoy themselves. People who need more information, can contact Tshabalala at 072 942 4442.
