Reusesinkgat val naby plaashuis in

Me.
“What I saw when I walked into the house this morning reminded me of the devastating scenes of flooding in Bangladesh.”
This is what Mrs. Thabisa Sekatane had to say about the muddy mess which greeted her when she returned to her home in Reinecke Street the previous Thusrday morning, after extensive flooding had forced her and her family out of the house the previous evening.
The heavy rains which fell over Carletonville the Monday night resulted in flooding which caused damage amounting to thousands of rands. Residents in Reinecke, Cactus and Platinum Streets were forced to vacate their homes after a storm drain burst, causing a fountain of water to pour out into the street and rush down into adjacent gardens. The walls of their houses, which were in the path of the torrent of water, were completely destroyed.
At certain places the water level rose to almost a metre high, and residents were forced to break holes into their garden walls to prevent the water from damming up.
Mr. Marcus Viljoen (25) and his wife, Antoinette (26), whose house in Platinum Street was flooded, said due to the noise of hail which had accompanied the downpour, they hadn’t heard their back wall collapsing, but shortly afterwards noticed a stream of water flowing through the living room.
